A record-breaking swimmer and a key football player earned the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Award honors presented by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming.

Senior swimmer Kylie Price from Kemmerer High School and senior football player Jose Morales of Rawlins High School received the awards for the week of Sept. 5 through Sept. 9, 2023. Performances do not carry over to next week.

Price broke two school records at Kemmerer High School in the 50 and 100 freestyle races.

The nomination from Kemmerer swim coach Amanda Aimone said, “Kylie smashed two of our school records that were set back in 2004. They were our 50 Free and 100 Freestyle records. They were 19 years old and set before she was even born by myself when I was swimming for the Lady Rangers. She also has the fast 50 freestyle time in 3A so far.”

Morales helped the Rawlins Outlaws improve to 2-1 in the 2023 season with a 25-12 victory over Green River last Friday night. The senior plays wide receiver/tight end, cornerback, and kicker for RHS.

His teammates nominated him for the honor. One nomination provided the details, “4 field goals made (one 49-yarder), 5 tackles, and 1 interception in a win against Green River.”

That was the Outlaws’ first victory over a 3A West opponent since 2019.

WyoPreps had a chance to visit with both winners on Wednesday. Price spoke about her performance in the pool, how long the records had stood, being better in the pool compared to dry land, swimming for Coach Aimone, and more. Morales pointed to the fact he didn’t know he was nominated, touched on his field goals, including the 49-yard effort, being 2-1 after some lean years, and more.

The WyoPreps Athlete of the Week nominations are accepted each week from 5 p.m. on Fridays through 9 a.m. on Mondays. Anyone can nominate a student-athlete or team. Winners are announced each Wednesday.
