The Big Horn Brawl was voted as the WyoPreps Game of the Week.

The two Park County rivals square off with home-field advantage in the 3A playoffs at stake.

Both teams have one loss on the season, and that was to top-ranked Star Valley.

Each team is 7-1 on the season and 3-1 in the West Conference.

WyoPreps caught up with head coaches Chase Kistler and Matt McFadden to preview the matchup. Both discussed how they’ve bounced back after the loss to the Braves, what this game means, how they describe the rivalry, what they’re looking out for from each other, and a few keys.

The top two offenses in Class 3A square off against two of the top four defenses.

Cody comes in averaging 441 yards and 47.5 points per game. They’re No. 4 in total defense and allow only 241 yards and 12.2 points per game.

Powell counters with the No. 2 offense at 393 yards and 42.8 points per game. The Panthers have the top defense that gives up 205 yards and 9.8 points per game.

QB Maddax Ball keys the offense for the Broncs. He’s the No. 4 passer in 3A. Running back Grady McCarten is second in the division at 107.1 yards and 12 TDs.

Jhett Schwahn is the third-leading passer in the class at 195 yards per game. Cody Seifert added 92.2 rushing yards per game.

Defensively, Keona Wisniewski anchors the Panthers defense and is No. 2 in 3A in defensive points per game. Cody’s Chase Hatch is the top Bronc defender at No. 5.

 

Cody has won six straight regular-season games against Powell. The last Panthers regular season win was in 2016. Overall, the series has 67 wins for the Broncs and 54 for the Panthers. There have been four ties, and three games have been canceled. This will be the 126th meeting, according to wyoming-football.com. The first meeting was back in 1921.

The kick-off is at 7 p.m. in Cody at Spike Vannoy Field.
