These two rivals are the top two offenses in 9-man football. Shoshoni is averaging just over 404 yards and 39 points per game. Wind River is just under 404 yards per game, but a whopping 56 points per game.

Both teams run the ball well, while the Wranglers have the advantage in the air by 41 yards per game.

Defensively, the Cougars are the top team in the division against the run and allow only 33 yards per game. They also give up just 9.7 points per game.

For comparison, Shoshoni allows 21 points per game.

Some of the top ball carriers are part of the action. Pehton Truempler is No.1 in 9-man at nearly 180 yards rushing per game for the Wranglers. Wind River counters with a one-two punch of Cooper Frederick at 166.8 yards per game and Jaycee Herbert at 108.2.

Shoshoni’s Alex Mills is throwing for 125 yards per game. He has nine TDs to just four interceptions.

Both teams know each other well, so the separation might be the finer details.

WyoPreps discussed the big game with Wranglers’ head coach Tony Truempler and Cougars’ head coach Rod Frederick. Both know and understand this rivalry very well. Both talked about how their team is playing, broke down the matchup, how stars need to play well, but other players will play a significant and perhaps unsung role, and more.

Thursday’s game in Pavillion will be the 58th between Wind River and Shoshoni in football. From the series history at wyoming-football.com, the first game was in 1969. The series stands at 29-28 with Wind River in front. The Wranglers have won the last four games, which includes two last year, 19-0 in the regular season and 27-0 in the playoffs. The last victory for the Cougars was in 2018 (45-14) in a game played at Ethete.

The game will kick off at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Pavillion.
