WyoPreps puts the spotlight on a big game in the Class 1A-9 Man West Division this week, as No. 5 Big Piney hosts third-ranked Wind River on Friday afternoon.

Both teams are off to 3-0 starts this season and are 2-0 in the conference.

The Punchers might be the surprise team of 2022 in the classification. After dropping down from 2A, there were some unknowns about Big Piney ahead of this year, but their 12-8 upset of Rocky Mountain in Week 2 caught everyone’s attention. The Punchers also have victories over Lusk and Greybull so far.

Wind River has dominated their opponents, outscoring teams 172-26 in three victories over Saratoga, St. Stephens, and Riverside.

WyoPreps’ David Settle visited with both Wind River head coach Rod Frederick and Big Piney head coach Jeromy Moffat before the game. They discussed how their season is going thus far, some of their key personnel, each other’s squads, and some keys to the game for them.

This will be the seventh meeting on the football field between these two schools, according to wyoming-football.com. Big Piney has won all six of the previous games. Their first meeting was in 2001. They haven’t played since 2017. This is the first game between the two schools as 9-man opponents.

The kick-off at Puncher Stadium is at 2 p.m.
