The WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors, presented by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming, went to a standout football player and girls’ swimmer.

After the performances from the week of Oct. 30 through Nov. 4, 2023, the girls’ winner was Green River’s Tavia Arnell, and the boys’ award went to Burlington’s Jordan Michaels.

WyoPreps apologizes for the delay in this story due to various factors, but we still want to honor both of these outstanding student-athletes.

Michaels helped the Burlington Huskies to a semifinal win, 80-73, over Encampment. Michaels finished with 187 yards rushing and four TDs. He threw for 303 yards on 20-28 passing for 3 touchdowns. On defense, Michaels had six tackles, an interception, and one blocked kick.

Arnell led Green River to the 3A girls’ swimming and diving state championship on Nov. 4. She won two individual events, the 200 IM and 100 butterfly races, and was on two winning relays, the 200 medley and 200 free. Arnell also set a state record in the 100-butterfly race in the prelims at a time of 56.39 seconds.

WyoPreps had a chance to visit with both student-athletes last week about their performances on Nov. 3 and Nov. 4.

Congratulations to Tavia and Jordan!

The WyoPreps Athlete of the Week nominations are still accepted for championship weekend performances from girls’ swimming and diving, volleyball, and football. We will be featuring more student-athletes in between fall and winter sports.
