Seven records were set during the 2022 Wyoming high school football season, and that was just part of some big numbers put up by players around the state.

According to state records kept at wyoming-football.com, there were three single-game state records, and the other four were single-season records. They ranged from 11-man to six-man football.

Both Sheridan’s Colson Coon and Wind River’s Cooper Frederick set a record for rushing yards in a single game, and they both did it in a playoff game.

Coon ran for 517 yards on 29 carries with seven TDs in the Broncs’ semifinal win over Cheyenne Central on Nov. 4, 2022. The previous record for 11-man football was Theo Dawson’s 489 yards on Oct. 30, 2015, for Jackson against Riverton.

That came one week after Frederick set a mark in 9-man football with 549 yards on 61 carries with six TDs for Wind River. The Cougars won at Southeast in the first round of the playoffs on Oct. 28, 2022, 46-38. That effort passed Saratoga’s Teegan Love, who had 506 yards rushing against Lingle-Ft. Laramie on Oct. 2, 2020.

The last single-game record was set by Cheyenne East senior Garet Schlabs. He set a new mark for catches in one game with 19 against Sheridan on Sept. 30, 2022. Schlabs finished with 209 yards receiving and three TDs in a 42-39 loss.

Star Valley’s Wyatt Crogg is the new leader for receiving yards in a single season for 11-man football. The senior had 1,253 yards, which eclipsed the old mark of 1,210 set by Jackson’s Nate Keipert last year.

Class 1A 9-man had a pair of new single-season marks established by a pair of teammates. That was Pine Bluffs seniors Stu Lerwick and Ryan Fornstrom.

Lerwick threw for 2,226 yards in the 2022 season for the Hornets. He broke his old mark of 2,215 yards set last year.

Fornstrom has the new record for receiving yards in a single season with 1,084. That topped the previous standard of 1,060 yards by Noah Rimmer of Saratoga in the 2020 season.

Finally, Dubois junior Wyatt Trembly established the new standard for rushing yards in a single season in Class 1A 6-man football. He ran for 2,502 yards, which topped the old record of 2,308 yards set by Riggen Myers of Little Snake River in 2019.

Several other performances put players among the top ten in either single-game or single-season records at wyoming-football.com.

Coon’s 2,195 yards rushing is No. 4 all-time in 11-man football. The senior scored 38 touchdowns in the 2022 season. There are no records kept for TDs in one year, but that’s a lot.

Star Valley senior QB Taft McClure put his name all over the record book. His 3,294 yards passing is at No. 2 all-time for prep football in the state. He also had the third, fourth, and fifth-best single-game passing yardage totals with 480 versus Powell, 448 against Cody, and 429 yards versus Riverton.

East QB Cam Hayes finished with a total of 2,867 yards passing placing him sixth in a single season. His 420 yards passing at Sheridan in the regular season is the ninth-most in a single game.

Thunder Basin QB Alonso Aguilar had 2,575 yards passing in the 2022 season, which is the ninth-best single-season mark in the state. He threw for 419 yards against East and that tied him for tenth-best in a single game. Senior teammate Kayden LaFramboise was part of two top-ten efforts. His 1,151 yards receiving in one season is the third-most in state history. LaFramboise had 242 yards receiving on 16 catches against East. That is the fifth-best single-game total in Wyoming.

Finally, from 11-man, Cooper Lakin at Burns had 272 defensive points in the season and that ranks No. 8 on the all-time list.

In the 9-man records, Shoshoni’s Pehton Truempler ran for 2,080 yards which put him at No. 2 for a single season. His teammates also added their names to the top ten. QB Alex Mills threw for 1,403 yards, good for fourth-most in a single season. Trey Fike finished with 509 yards receiving, which is fourth-best.

Pine Bluffs senior Ryan Fornstrom had 187 yards receiving against Moorcroft and that ranks No. 4 for a single game.

Wind River’s Cooper Frederick compiled 1,919 rushing yards, and that’s good for the third-best in a single season.

The final addition to the top-ten record book came in 6-man football. Burlington’s Seth Wardell threw for 1,469 yards in the 2022 season. That places him at No. 9 for a single season.
