The longest road trip for a playoff team this week is in the Class 2A playoffs. Cokeville heads to No. 3 Torrington in a WyoPreps Game of the Week.

The Panthers were 5-3 in the regular season, which included a 4-2 record in conference action. The Blazers finished at 6-3 overall and 6-1 in league games.

It will be just the third football game between the two schools. Both the previous games were in Torrington, as well, and both were in the playoffs. The Blazers won both games. In 2020, the final was 34-14, and in 2021, the final was 21-14.

Both teams like to run the ball. Cokeville is at 240 yards per game, while Torrington is at 210 yards per game. The key matchup might be the Panthers’ No. 3 ground attack against the Blazers’ No. 2 rush defense which allows only 94 yards per game.

WyoPreps caught up with Cokeville head coach Marty Linford and Torrington head coach Russell Stienmetz. The coaches discussed how their team is playing entering the playoffs, what they see from each other, the type of game they expect, and dealing with the elements. Coach Linford also addressed the long travel across the state and breaking that up over two days.

By the Panthers, the trek was 475 miles from home to T-town.

The kick-off is at 6 p.m. at Wiseman Field in Torrington.
