In a showdown of the two top-ranked teams in 3A, #1 Cody traveled to Afton to take on #2 Star Valley on Friday. In the opening quarter, Star Valley started the scoring with a field goal and Cody answered with a 65-yard run for a touchdown by Matt Nelson to give the Broncs a 7-3 lead. That was one of several big plays the Cody offense produced in this game.

With just a few seconds to go in the 2nd quarter, Cody hit paydirt again as quarterback Luke Talich found Remy Broussard for 28 yards and a TD so the Broncs went to the locker room at halftime leading 14-3.

Luke Talich is having a sensational season and added to his stats with a 59-yard gallop to the end zone to put Cody in front 21-3 in the 3rd quarter. But Star Valley answered that score with one of their own. Quarterback Taft McClure who is having a sensational season hooked up with Luke Linford for the TD that covered 8 yards so the Braves inched closer trailing 21-10.

In the 4th quarter, Star Valley got back into the game on a 1-yard TD run from Tristian Hilton and the Braves converted the 2-point try so they were back in business trailing 21-18. But Cody delivered another big play on offense with Talich finding Trey Thomasson for a touchdown that went for 69 yards and the Broncs were up 10 at 28-18

Star Valley showed a lot of fortitude in the contest and came back with a touchdown later in the 4th quarter as Jacob Hodges caught the TD ball and it was a 3-point game at 28-25. But Cody had one more big offensive play up their sleeves with Talich connecting with Wilkins Radakovich for a 50-yard scoring play to make it 35-25.

That's the way it stayed as Cody is 6-0 on the year and will host Evanston this week. Star Valley played the Broncs closer than anybody so far this season so the Braves are 5-2 overall with a home game this week against Green River.
