After missing the football playoffs last year, the Torrington Trailblazers want to get back in the mix in Class 2A in 2023.

The WyoPreps Preseason Football Tour is back for another year. It allows us to visit with players and coaches from various programs ahead of the new season.

This year’s tour kept us closer to home, as we roamed through the southeast portion of the state.

Stop No. 6 on this year’s preseason tour was for a visit to Torrington to see the Class 2A Blazers.

Seniors Bryce Hager and Tyler Bennick are two big returners for Torrington. They are expected to help lead a bit of a turnaround. Both are excited about a new season, and they discussed some keys for the Blazers to be successful, how practice was going during the first week, what they expect out of the 2A East, and more.

Fifth-year Torrington head coach Russell Stienmetz felt they were off to a good start, touched on what the early focus has been, how his squad can be more successful this season, staying healthy at key positions, using their first two games to prepare them for conference action, and more.

The Blazers were 3-6 in 2022 and 3-4 in conference games. They missed the 2A playoffs by one spot in the standings.
