Yost and Cozzens Earn WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Honors 11-20-24 [VIDEO]
State champions in volleyball and football were chosen for the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week awards. These two helped their team win a state title recently, as the fall prep sports season for 2024-25 finished up. Avynn Yost of Douglas led the Bearcats to the Class 3A state championship in volleyball, and Bridger Cozzens had an impressive performance that helped Little Snake River win the Class 1A 6-man football state title.

Girls Winner
Yost ran the offense for the state-champion Bearcats. At the volleyball state tournament two weeks ago, the junior had 147 assists in the three matches Douglas played. She averaged 10.5 assists per set. Yost added 30 digs, eight kills, and six service aces. The Bearcats defeated Lovell in four sets, survived a tough five-set semifinal against No. 3 Powell, and then beat No. 1 Cody for the title. The scores of that match were 18-25, 25-14, 17-25, 26-24, and 15-12. Douglas won its fifth championship in school history and their first since 2017. Yost finished the season with 1,128 assists for the season and helped the Bearcats have a team-hitting efficiency percentage of .2796.
WyoPreps spoke with Avynn about the feeling of being a state champion, what it took to get to the top of 3A this year, some of the keys Douglas had at the state tournament, what she tried to do running the offense, and more.
Boys Winner
Cozzens set a 6-man state championship game record with 482 yards rushing and seven TDs in Little Snake River’s 87-50 victory over No. 2 and defending state champion Burlington last Saturday in Laramie. Cozzens averaged 19.3 yards per rush on 25 attempts. He added one reception for 36 yards. That was good for another touchdown. Overall, he finished with 540 all-purpose yards and 8 TDs. On defense, the senior made 11 tackles, which included 0.5 tackles for loss. He also had two interceptions and one pass breakup. The Rattlers finished the season 10-0 and won their sixth title in school history.
Cozzens discussed his performance with WyoPreps. He explained the motivation he and his teammates had on Saturday, the feeling after the victory, what some of the keys were, how he played, and more.
