The WyoPreps Athlete of the Year Award is presented by Premier Bone and Joint Centers of Wyoming. The second recipient of our football honor is Star Valley senior Smith McClure. He capped his prep career by leading the Braves to an undefeated season and their third consecutive state championship in Class 3A football.

McClure led Star Valley to a 12-0 record and their 15th title in school history. The senior quarterback guided an offense that set a new school record for the most points scored in a single season with 538. The Braves averaged 44.8 points per game and scored 70 TDs on offense. McClure threw for 2,726 yards in the 2024 season. That mark is second-best in school history and the eighth-most in state history, according to records at wyoming-football.com. Smith completed 67.9 percent of his passes. He averaged 227.2 yards per game and 13.8 yards per completion. McClure threw for 30 TDs and only five interceptions. He added 571 yards rushing and 10 TDs on the ground. McClure’s QB efficiency rating was 177.6. His best game of the 2024 season was at Powell on Oct. 4. Smith was 26-39 for 384 yards and four TDs with zero interceptions. He averaged 14.8 yards per completion in a 42-7 victory.

In the 3A state championship game on Nov. 15 in Laramie, McClure led Star Valley to a 20-7 victory over Cody. Smith ran 19 times for 72 yards and two touchdowns. He was 9-14 passing for 97 yards.

McClure was a Class 3A all-state and all-conference selection for the second consecutive year. He was selected as the co-offensive Player of the Year in the 3A West Conference.
