After a couple of down seasons by their standards, the Big Horn Rams are hoping to climb back towards the top of Class 2A football in 2022.

Both of the last two years, the Rams have reached the playoffs in 2A but were ousted in the first round by state champion Lyman.

Now, a year older and a little more veteran, according to head coach Kirk McLaughlin, Big Horn wants to be more of a contender than just a playoff participant.

McLaughlin enters his fifth season at the helm. He guided the Rams to back-to-back state titles and two undefeated seasons in 2018 and 2019. Big Horn was 5-4 in 2020 and finished 3-6 last year.

The Rams are led by returning all-state quarterback and linebacker Cooper Garber. Also back are all-conference selections Wyatt Brown (receiver/linebacker) and Kiefer Dunham (lineman).

As part of our preseason football tour, WyoPreps visited a recent practice to chat with Garber, AJ Moline, and coach McLaughlin and gained more insight into Big Horn football in 2022. That’s in the video above.

The Rams have a scrimmage game during Week 0. Their official season opener will be on Sept. 2 against last year’s runner-up, Lovell.
