The top two teams in Class 1A-6 Man will clash for the state championship football game, as Farson-Eden takes on Meeteetse.

This game is a rematch from week 7 of the regular season. At home, the Pronghorns defeated the Longhorns, 35-16.

WyoPreps visited with both head coaches before the game, Farson-Eden’s Trip Applequist, and Meeteetse’s Zeb Hagen. They talked about having an opportunity to play for the state title, some of the improvements their team has made to reach this game, key personnel, what they took from the regular-season meeting, keys to this game, and in Farson’s case, a chance to host the championship.

Match-up Breakdown:

Meeteetse (8-1) – Zeb Hagen: 5th year as head coach over two stints; 2 state championships in school history; the most recent was in 2013 (65-30 over Midwest)

Farson-Eden (10-0) – Trip Applequist: 9th year as head coach; 1 state championships in school history; that came in 2018 (73-38 over Burlington)

Meeteetse leads the all-time series, 7-6. They first played each other in a varsity game in 1990. The Pronghorns have won the last five in the series. This will be the first postseason meeting between the two schools.

Key Match-up:

Farson-Eden has the No. 1 rushing offense and No. 2 total offense in 6-man. Meeteetse’s defense is only rated No. 5 against the run and fifth in team defense, but the Longhorns have 56 tackles for loss and 18 quarterback sacks, both of which are the most in 6-man. Can Meeteetse slow down the Pronghorns and then capitalize when they have the ball? The first meeting this year saw Farson-Eden pull away late in the game, so it was actually closer than the 19-point margin indicates, according to both head coaches.

Kick-off will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Farson.
