Class 1A-9 Man State Championship Game Preview [VIDEO]
An old SEWAC rivalry comprises the 2020 Class 1A-9 Man State Championship football game, as the Lusk Tigers play the Southeast Cyclones in Yoder.
This game will be a rematch from week 7 of the regular season. Southeast topped Lusk, 35-16.
WyoPreps talked with both Lusk head coach Ryan Nelson and Southeast head coach Mark Bullington before the game about reaching the title game, areas they’ve seen progress in throughout the season with their team, some key personnel, takeaways from the first game this year, and keys to their success in the video at the top of this story.
Lusk (8-2) – Ryan Nelson: 6th year as head coach; 5 state championships in school history; the most recent was in 2002 (2A, 31-0 over Big Horn)
Southeast (10-0) – Mark Bullington: 22nd year as head coach; 9 state championships in school history; the most recent was in 2012 (1A, 40-6 over Lusk)
Lusk leads the all-time series, 25-20. This game will be the fourth postseason meeting (2-1 Southeast) between the two schools and the third one in a championship game (2001 & 2012), both won by the Cyclones.
The Tigers have the No. 1 rushing offense in 9-man at 479.4 yards per game. They will face the No. 2 rush defense from Southeast, who allows only 133.4 yards per game. Can the Cyclones slow down Lusk’s powerful ground attack?
Kick-off is at 5 p.m. on Friday in Yoder.
