Reigning Gatorade Wyoming Girls Basketball Player of the Year Molly Hays, from Cody, is heading to Idaho State University.

Hays made her announcement via social media on Monday night.

Hays led the Cody Fillies to a 25-0 record and the Class 4A girls’ basketball state championship in the 2022-23 season. She led 4A with an average of 20.5 points and 4.7 steals per game. She shot 57 percent from the field, 41 percent beyond the arc, and 84 percent at the free-throw line. That was also first in Class 4A. Hays contributed 5.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game during her junior season and surpassed 1,000 points in her high school career.

Her 34 points scored against Evanston on Feb. 10, 2023, was a career-high and the best single-game performance in Class 4A girls’ basketball last season. It tied for the second-most in the state during the 2022-23 season.

Hays is a three-time all-state selection over her three seasons and has her senior year to come.

She was the first Gatorade Wyoming Girls Basketball Player of the Year chosen from Cody High School. The Fillies are 67-7 in her prep career.

Hays has strong family ties to the Idaho State University. Both her mother and father were student-athletes for the Bengals. Her older brother Hunter Hays is the current starting QB for the ISU football team.

She is the second-known Division I commit from the Class of 2024, joining Laramie’s Maddy Stucky, who committed last summer to the University of Wyoming for volleyball.

Hays is a three-sport star at CHS. She also plays volleyball and soccer for the Fillies.
