Douglas Holds on to Beat Powell in 3A Quarterfinals
Douglas was the #1 seed from the 3A East and had the privilege of playing the only team that beat them during the regular season. The Powell Panthers traveled to Converse County and gave the Bearcats all they could handle.
After a scoreless 1st quarter, Keltan Ewing put Douglas on the board with a 15 yard run for a touchdown so the Cats led 7-0. Jackson Hughes increased the Douglas lead to 14-0 in the 2nd quarter with a 2 plunge to the end zone to make it 14-0. Powell did get a 20-yard field goal from Hawkin Sweeney in that 2nd stanza to cut the gap to 14-3.
after a scoreless 3rd quarter, Powell made it a game with a 20-yard touchdown reception from Jhett Schwahn to Reed Smith so the Panthers were back in business trailing 14-10.
Powell had a chance late in the 4th quarter with the ball but the Douglas defense stood up and made a big stand to prevail in this hard-fought contest 14-10.
Douglas is 8-1 and will host Jackson in the 3A semi-finals at 1 pm. The season comes to a close for Powell with a record of 6-4. We do have a few pics from that game in our gallery night thanks to Douglas High School. Take a look!
