Times are changing for the Jackson Broncs for the 2022 season. They have a new coach in David Wright and will have to replace a record-setting quarterback in Sadler Smith. The Broncs didn't get a great to start the season as they hosted a solid Douglas squad on Friday night.

One of the new Jackson quarterbacks is senior Owen Janssen and he got to work right away on Friday as he connected with Thomas May for 65 yards and a touchdown in the opening quarter to put the Broncs up 7-0. Jackson Hughes booted a field goal for Douglas to cut the gap to 7-3 in the first quarter but the scoring would be hard to come by, for both teams. Douglas was hurt in the first half by a couple of interceptions. Jackson did find the end zone late in the 2nd quarter as Janssen spotted Seb Brunner for the score so the Broncs took a 14-3 lead into the intermission.

Douglas rallied with a score as Brody Wagner scored a rushing touchdown but the 2-point try failed so the Bearcats trailed 14-9. Jackson kicked a late field goal and Douglas failed to score on their last possession in the final seconds of the contest.

These two teams could meet again in the 3A playoffs and Douglas will be on the road this week in Gering, Nebraska while Jackson will be at home on Friday to take on Wood River, Idaho.
