Longtime Laramie track and field coach Gil Bradfield was instrumental in the growth of indoor track with participation numbers growing year by year. Bradfield was also very instrumental in outdoor track as he served as the Plainsmen head coach for 39 years. With that kind of resume, he was a shoo-in for induction for the Wyoming Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

His boy's teams won regional championships three times, six 2nd place finished and 5 3rd place finishes. His girl's team was a regional title twice and took 2nd three other times. Bradfield started in Laramie in 1977 and worked in a number of sports but is best known for his outstanding work in track & field. He's also a Level 1 USA Track and Field coach and USA Track and Field master level official.

He joins Gillette's James Hinshaw, Ray Kumpula of Glenrock, Cokeville's Keith Nate, Natrona's Tom Rowley, Jackson's Tom Ralston, and Nate Urbach from Powell as the 2021 WCA Hall of Fame inductees. Joining that group was Casper's Sheryl Schroefel and Torrington's Tory Bugher as the Junior High/ Middle School Hall of Fame inductees.

We had a chance to chat with Gil Bradfield at the WCA banquet last month about his thoughts on induction and his career. Enjoy!
