National Football Foundation’s 2022 Team of Distinction Features Powell’s Toran Graham
Powell’s Toran Graham has earned a spot on the National Football Foundation’s (NFF) 2022 Team of Distinction.
Graham was one of 82 stellar high school scholar-athletes chosen from across the country for their combined performance on the football field, in the classroom, and the community. Those selected came from a pool of 3,500 scholar-athletes.
Graham was nominated by the NFF Wyoming Chapter. He was one of 17 tabbed from the West Region.
Toran had a 4.03 GPA at Powell High School. He was a two-time team captain and the Class 3A West co-Defensive Player of the Year in the 2021 season. Graham was a two-time all-state selection at linebacker. He was also the vice president of his National Honor Society Chapter.
In addition to football, Graham also played basketball and competed in track and field for the Panthers. He helped Powell to the 3A West Region Championship in basketball and the Class 3A state basketball tournament. Graham took second in the shot put and fourth in the discus at the 3A state track meet.
Toran also received the Wilford Mower Memorial Award for the outstanding male student-athlete as voted on by athletic directors in the Northwest District of Wyoming
According to a release from the NFF, as part of its mission to promote the scholar-athlete ideal, the initiative allows the NFF to honor the top high school scholar-athletes from around the country as the best and the brightest at the local level while highlighting the work of the NFF Chapter Network.
“This initiative allows us to shine a national spotlight on some of the most deserving high school student-athletes honored at the local level by our expansive Chapter Network,” said NFF Chairman Archie Manning. “This honor is one of the most prestigious national awards that a high school player can receive. We would like to congratulate all 82 honorees for their success on and off the field, especially with the challenges caused by the pandemic during their senior year. We also want to salute all of our NFF Chapters who continue to play an important role in promoting football in their communities.”
Criteria to make the team include but are not limited to academic achievement, athletic accolades, and community involvement. Each chapter is limited to one honoree, distinguishing them as the top scholar-athlete from all the high schools covered by the chapter.
The 2022 NFF Team of Distinction includes 35 States Represented, a 4.0 Average GPA, 68 Team Captains, 46 All-State Selections, 6 Valedictorians, 53 National Honor Society Members, and 6 National Merit Finalists and Honorees.
