One Record Falls and Lander’s in Position at the 3A Boys State Swim Meet
The 2023 Wyoming High School Boys’ Swimming and Diving State Championships opened on Thursday in Gillette.
Lander looks to be in a good position for another state title.
The Tigers had the top time in six of the 12 events. In the other six, Lander was second. Dylan Huelskamp had the fastest time in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly races. The Tigers had the top time in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Their other two leaders were Finn Richards in the 200 IM and Benny Kulow in the 100-freestyle race.
Other event leaders were Lyman’s Jaxon Lallatin in the 50 freestyle race. Braxton Cordova has a 41.65-point lead through the semifinals of diving. Buffalo had the top qualifying time to the finals in the 200-freestyle relay. Cody’s Joseph Killpack topped the 100-backstroke event, and Buffalo’s Tommy Wonka had the best time in the prelims of the 100-breaststroke race.
There was one state record broken in the prelims. That happened in the 500-freestyle race. Green River’s Brady Young has the top time of 4:45.82. That surpassed the old record of 4:47.50 set by Lander’s Eric Moxley back in 2001.
The finals of the 3A boys’ state swim meet are at 10 a.m. in Gillette.
