It’s No. 1 at No. 2 in the WyoPreps Big School ‘Game of the Week,’ as the Sheridan Broncs host the Rock Springs Tigers on Friday night.

These are the last two undefeated teams in Class 4A football.

Rock Springs has opened with victories over Campbell County, Thunder Basin, and Kelly Walsh.

Sheridan has beaten Laramie, Cheyenne South, and Cheyenne Central.

WyoPreps spoke with Tigers’ head coach Mark Lenhardt and Broncs’ head coach Jeff Mowry before the big matchup. Lenhardt touched on continued improvement by his squad, some great play by QB Brock Bider last week against the Trojans, facing a very good Sheridan team, and playing in another big game. Mowry reflected on his team’s start to the season and growth with some of his inexperienced players, his defense, Colson Coon, what they’ll see versus Rock Springs, and playing in a big game. That’s in the audio interviews at the top of this story.

As you expect, these two teams are near the top of Class 4A in most statistical categories.

Rock Springs is first in team offense at 384 yards per game, and they’re averaging 47 points per game. The Tigers are fourth in rushing yards per game at 197 and third in passing at 187 per game.

Sheridan is first in rushing at 237 yards per game and fifth in passing at 141. That has them third in total offense at 378 yards per game. They’re averaging 48 points per game.

Defensively, these two are first and second in 4A. The Broncs allow 186 yards and 6.7 points per game, while the Tigers give up 220 yards and 8.3 points per game.

Turnovers have been key for Sheridan thus far. They have 11 takeaways, while Rock Springs has only three turnovers this season.

Bider keys the Tigers’ attack. He’s averaging 205.7 yards per game in total offense. Bider has four TD runs and seven TD passes. Isaac Schoenfeld has seven touchdowns this season, tops in 4A. His teammate Andrew Skorcz is second with six. Defensively, Rock Springs is paced by Cadon Shaklee at 11.3 defensive points per game.

Sheridan’s led by Coon, who is averaging 78.3 rushing yards per game, which is third in 4A. Dom Kaszas has emerged as another playmaker at 67.7 receiving yards per game. The duo has accounted for eight TDs this season. Kaszas has a punt return and kick-off return for a score, as well. Ezra Eckland and Texas Tanner lead the Broncs’ defense at 10.3 points per game.

That includes 18 consecutive wins by the Broncs, who have outscored the Tigers 607-to-161 over that span. The last time Rock Springs won a game in the series was in 1959, and it was in Sheridan.

The kick-off is at 6 p.m. from Homer Scott Field in Sheridan.
