It was a battle of the #1 and #2 ranked teams in 4A on Friday in Gillette as Thunder Basin played host to Sheridan and what a game competitive game this was. The scoring began in the first quarter as Thunder Basin hit paydirt as quarterback Mason Hamilton threw to Tanner Richards on a play that covered 6 yards and a touchdown to give the bolts a 7-0 lead. Sheridan had some enormous plays on special teams which included a 96-yard kick off return for a touchdown from Carter McComb in the opening quarter to tie the game at 7.  The Broncs followed that up with a touchdown as quarterback Jacob Boint found Toby Jacobs for 3 yards and a score so at this point Sheridan was in front 13-7.

In the 2nd quarter, Thunder Basin added a field goal and Sheridan answered with an 18 yard run for a touchdown from Garrett Coon to take a 20-10 lead. Thunder Basin but into that with a 3 yard run to the end zone from Edwards but Sheridan held on to the lead at 20-17 at halftime.

It was a wild 3rd quarter, starting with a 14 yard run for a score by Thunder Basin’s Tyson Edwards. The Sheridan defense made a gigantic play later in the 3rd as Garrett Coon had a 98-yard pick-six and you don’t see that every day. Thunder Basin concluded the 3rd quarter scoring as Mason Hamilton threw his 2nd TD pass of the game, this time to Dyce Shepard so after 3, the Bolts led 30-27. In the 4th quarter Edwards scored his 3rd Td of the contest, Sheridan tacked on a field goal to make it 37-30. Sheridan had one last chance with no time on the clock but that pass was knocked away. Thunder Basin goes to 4-0 with a thrilling 37-30 win over Sheridan. The Bolts will meet cross town rival Gillette this week. Sheridan is 3-1 with the broncs at home this week to meet Kelly Walsh.
