A new season starts this week, and the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Preseason Football Poll has made its 2023 debut.

Three of the five defending champs begin the new year at No. 1 in the rankings. The other two are rated second in the preseason poll. Little Snake River, Pine Bluffs, and Star Valley start at the top, while Big Horn and Sheridan are second.

In the Class 1A 6-Man division, the two-time defending champs, LSR, received 12 of the 15 first-place votes. Dubois, Burlington, and Encampment all got one first-place vote. The Rams are second, followed by the Huskies and Tigers. Kaycee rounded out the top five in fifth.

From Class 1A 9-Man, the Hornets earned ten of the 17 first-place votes and came in at the top. Big Piney was second. The Punchers garnered one first-place vote but a majority of second-place votes. Third was Wind River. The Cougars got three first-place votes. Southeast received a first-place vote and checked in at No. 4. Lingle-Ft. Laramie was tabbed fifth in the preseason rankings.

Lyman topped the 2A preseason poll. The Eagles earned six first-place votes, but it was their seven votes for second that put them at No. 1. Defending champion Big Horn was second with seven first-place votes. Mountain View earned five and Lovell four first-place votes. The Buffalos and Bulldogs are third and fourth, respectively. Tongue River completed the 2A top five.

Defending champion Star Valley received 16 of the 20 first-place votes in Class 3A. The Braves start as the favorites. Cody got three first-place votes, and that put the Broncs in second. Douglas, Powell, and Buffalo rounded out the preseason poll.

Finally, in 4A, Cheyenne East was at the top with seven first-place votes. Two-time defending champion Sheridan came in second with six first-place votes. Natrona County was third and earned two first-place votes. Thunder Basin was fourth, and Cheyenne Central was fifth.
