Two rivals from the 3A West Conference collide in our fan-voted week four WyoPreps ‘Game of the Week.’

It’s the Big Horn Brawl in Powell on Friday night, as the top-ranked Panthers host the No. 3 Cody Broncs at Panther Stadium.

Powell enters the game with a 2-0 record. They did not play last week after their game at No. 5 Douglas was canceled over COVID concerns.

Cody got to 3-0 last week with a hard-fought, 14-6 victory on the road at Buffalo.

This is not only a big rivalry, but it’s also the conference opener for both teams.

In the audio interviews above, WyoPreps’ David Settle spoke with Powell head coach Chase Kistler and Cody's head coach Matt McFadden ahead of this edition of the Big Horn Brawl. Both coaches discussed their season-to-date, some of their personnel that’s been playing well, preparing for this rivalry matchup and also having it be the first conference game, and then some keys for the game.

Both teams want to establish the run. They rank third and fourth in Class 3A in rushing offense. The Panthers average about 22 yards per game more than Cody. Passing the ball is also very close with the two teams separated by less than five yards a game. Powell averages 36 points per game, while Cody is at 33.3.

This game also features the second-rated defense from Powell against the fourth-best from Cody. One area the Panthers have an edge on the Broncs is in pass defense. Powell allows 98 yards per game compared to Cody at nearly 172.

Powell is led by Landon Lengfelder and Toran Graham on each side of the ball. Cody is guided by Nic Talich and Caleb Pryor.

This will be the 122nd meeting between the rivals, according to wyoming-football.com. Cody leads the all-time series 63-54 with four ties. It dates back to 1921. They split last year with the Broncs winning the regular-season game, 38-14. Powell won at Cody in the playoffs, 20-13. The Panthers have a slight edge, 6-4, over the last 10 meetings going back to 2012.

Kick-off is at 7 p.m. Friday at Panther Stadium in Powell.
