Wheatland advanced their record to 6-1 overall in the 2A ranks after a hard-fought win over Tongue River on Friday 20-14. The Bulldogs were stunned by Burns last week and were facing another stunner but pulled it out with some defense and a few big plays on defense.

Tongue River's defense actually had a solid night considering what kind of talent Wheatland puts on the field offensively. Each team found the end zone in the first quarter as Wheatland's Kade Preuit got into the end zone from four yards out to give the Dawgs a 6-0 lead. The Eagles responded with a TD of their own in the opening quarter as Ryan McCafferty returned the ensuing kick-off for a touchdown. The extra point was good to Tongue River led 7-6. Wheatland notched another touchdown in the 2nd quarter as Aric Suko capped a drive with a four-yard run for a score. The 2 point try was good so at halftime. the Bulldogs led 14-7.

In the 3rd quarter, Preuit reeled a 25 yard run for a touchdown to bump the lead to 20-7 and that's the way it stayed through three-quarters of play, Tongue River inched closer in the 4th quarter as Garrett Ostler caught a 55 yard touchdown pass from Ryan McCafferty to cut the gap to 20-14 That would be as close as the Eagles would get as Wheatland wins another close one, 20-14 over Tongue River

The Bulldogs have a big game this week as they'll host Torrington on Friday. Tongue River is 2-4 on the year and they will host Big Horn on Saturday. We have some fantastic pictures of the game in our gallery from Tony Montoya, so please take a look at those!
