Wind River Goes to 4-0 Handing Big Piney 1st Defeat

1A 9-Man football has produced some great games this season in Wyoming with Big Piney entertaining Wind River on Friday afternoon. Both teams were ranked in our WyoPreps.com and both teams came in undefeated.

Both teams found the end zone in the first quarter as Jaycee Herbert reeled off a 30 run for a touchdown to make it 6-0 with Big Piney responding with a 1-yard TD run from Thomas Howard to even the game at 6. In the 2nd quarter, Howard got in from the doorstep but the extra point was missed so the Punchers assumed a 12-6 lead. Wind River came back with a 1 yard run for a score by Chris Burk. The Cougars went for 2 and made it so they led 14-12 at the halftime intermission.

Big Piney had something to say in the 3rd quarter as Champ Snively threw a 20-yard TD pass to Tryzman Green. The 2-point try failed but the Punchers still had the lead at 18-14. In the 4th quarter, Burk tallied for the 2nd time in the game getting in from the 5 so make it 20-18.

The Cougar defense did the rest with a couple of 4th quarter touchdowns. Wind River gets to 4-0 with a 20-18 road win over Big Piney. the Cougars will host Wyoming Indian on Thursday. Big Piney falls to 3-1 and the Punchers will be on the road this week at St. Stephens.
