Wyoming High School Girls Basketball Rankings: Dec. 20, 2018
All is mostly calm in the new coaches/media rankings heading into the Holiday break for most teams, but 2 teams have made it into the top 5, that weren't there before.
In 4A, Thunder Basin and Cheyenne East retain their #1 and #2 positions. The Lady Bolts are playing during the break, both at a tournament in Phoenix, Arizona and the Energy Classic Tournament next week. Star Valley and Cheyenne Central tie for the #3 ranking. The Lady Braves are new to 4A this year, and will host their own tournament next week. #5 Campbell County will also play in the Energy Classic Tournament.
The tournament field in Gillette got a little more interesting as 3A unanimous #1 Douglas was able to get a spot in the bracket. As a results, they had to bow out of their own event last week, but that was hardly any consequence to the defending champs, who have won 30 straight games. Buffalo and Mountain View tie for the #2 ranking. Lyman and Powell maintain their positions at #4 and #5, and each play in a big inter-class matchup on Thursday. The Lady Eagles visit 4A SV, while the Lady Panthers host 2A Wyoming Indian.
On the topic of Wyoming Indian, the Lady Chiefs are the unanimous #1 2A team. They will make 2 trips to Park County in as many weeks during the winter break. We mentioned 3A Powell, and they also visit 4A Cody. The rest of 2A is unchanged. Pine Bluffs sits at #2, followed by Wright, Greybull and Big Horn. #3 and #5 will be at the Powder River Conference Invitational this weekend at Sundance and Moorcroft.
There's been a little movement in the 1A rankings, but not in the top 2. Cokeville and St. Stephens hold in those 2 spots. Farson-Eden climbs up to #3, bumping undefeated Arvada-Clearmont to #4. Rock River has impressed enough voters with their 7-1 start, to be placed at #5.
Disclaimer: The rankings have no official say on post-season positioning, and are only to be used as a measuring stick on the regular season. Please don't read too much into the rankings.
Because of the Holiday Break, the next rankings won't come out until January 10, 2019.
