Wyoming High School Girls Basketball Rankings: Feb. 8, 2018
When you add in the new coaches/media rankings, the matchups are starting to become bigger and better as teams are jockeying for post-season seeding.
The voters agree on which 4A teams are the top 5, just not in the same order. Campbell County retains the #1 rankings, after convincing wins last week. Kelly Walsh is now up to #2, after a 5-0 start in conference play. Thunder Basin drops to #3, after being humbled by their cross town rivals last week. Cheyenne East is at #4 and visit the Lady Camels on Friday. The last game between the 2 teams (2 weeks ago), was very one sided. Evanston holds at #5, and has 5 conference left on their schedule...all on the road.
It's still a 2-team race on top of the 3A rankings, between the only 2 undefeated teams in the state. #1 Douglas had little trouble dispatching #4 Buffalo last week, and probably won't be challenged again until the regional tournament. Elsewhere in the west...the big game is Saturday, when #2 Lyman visits #3 Powell. Staying in the west, Star Valley is back in the rankings at #5, by 1 vote ahead of Mountain View.
This is a big week in the 2A rankings, and there will be some big regional seeding implications. #1 Greybull will have a big test Thursday and Friday with back-to-back road games vs. unranked Lovell and #3 Rocky Mountain. On the East side, the big rematch is Saturday, when #4 Pine Bluffs visits #2 Lusk. The previous meeting went to OT. As for #5 Sundance, they will continue business in their conference this weekend.
1A is in for a big week as well. On Saturday, #1 Encampment visits an unranked Rock River team that trying to prove they can hang with the west. On that same day, #3 Cokeville visits #2 Little Snake River. The Lady Tigers will be keeping an eye on that one. As for the rest of the rankings...St. Stephens is still #4 and Farson-Eden is #5. The Lady Pronghons are off this week, and don't play until Valentine's Day at home vs. Cokeville.
Disclaimer: The rankings have no official say on post-season positioning, and are only to be used as a measuring stick on the regular season. Please don't read too much into the rankings.
