Following a strong sophomore season, Newcastle junior Hannah Gross has elevated her swimming during the 2019 season.

Gross was runner-up in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke races at last year’s state championships. In 2019, she’s shown her range as a swimmer with some of the best times in freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and the individual medley.

In another WyoPreps Spotlight, David Settle had a recent phone conversation before a couple of days of competition with Hannah Gross and Newcastle head coach Doug Scribner. The discussed how the season is going, what she had in mind coming into 2019, her training, how they mix her events around, and what she thinks about the state meet coming up. Coach Scribner had quite a bit of praise for Gross, not just her swimming, but also her leadership and work ethic, particularly paying attention to some of the finer points in her technique and turns. Scribner also talked about the young team the Dogies have and how they hope to build into the future. It's all part of the video above.

Gross has the fastest times in the sprint freestyles, 50 and 100, plus the 200 freestyle. She is ranked second in the individual medley and butterfly, plus third in the backstroke and fourth in the 500 freestyle.

This junior will lead the young Newcastle team into the Class 3A State Championships on Nov. 7 and 8 in Gillette.
