Things are starting to settle down in the latest WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media Football Poll.

There are just two new teams to this week’s rankings and a new No. 1, but two classes are the same as a week ago.

The new top-ranked team is in Class 4A. Fresh off a 23-point win over the previous No. 1, the Cheyenne East Thunderbirds take the top spot in the poll for the first time this year. The Thunderbirds received 16 first-place votes. Thunder Basin stays put in the No. 2 slot with six first-place votes. Cheyenne Central drops to third, essentially switching places with East. Natrona and Rock Springs stay fourth and fifth, respectively.

Jackson earned 19 of the 20 first-place votes in 3A. That keeps the Broncs ranked first for another week. Then, teams trade places. Powell moves to No. 2, while Cody drops to three. Star Valley’s win 7-point win over Cody puts the Braves back to fourth, while Douglas falls one position to fifth.

The top four are the same in Class 2A. Mountain View holds No. 1 for the fifth straight week. The Buffalos received 17 of the 18 ballots for the top spot. They are followed by Lyman, Upton-Sundance, and Torrington. There’s a tie for fifth between Big Horn and Lovell. Both have made their way back to the top five for the first time in several weeks. That pushed Big Piney out. The Punchers were one of three teams that received votes.

Both Class 1A polls are the exact same as last week.

In 9-man, Southeast holds the No. 1 position with 16 first-place votes. Rocky Mountain is firmly in second after last week’s win at No. 3 Lusk. The Grizzlies were named first on three ballots. The Tigers hold in third, while Shoshoni stays fourth, where the Wranglers have been all season. Saratoga holds onto the No. 5 ranking for a second straight week. Three more teams garnered at least one vote.

The only unanimous top-ranked team in this week’s poll is from 6-man. Farson-Eden has held the top spot all season long. Meeteetse remains in second, and the Longhorns are a unanimous choice for that position in the rankings. Encampment, Kaycee, and Little Snake River round out the top five. Three other schools received a vote.

There are five games that feature ranked teams playing each other this weekend. That includes a pair of No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdowns. The first happens in 3A, where top-ranked Jackson visits second-rated Powell. The second is on Saturday in Class 1A-6 man when No. 2 Meeteetse visits the No. 1 Pronghorns in Farson. Two more games happen in Class 4A, where the fifth-rated Rock Springs Tigers play at third-ranked Cheyenne Central. In Casper, No. 2 Thunder Basin plays No. 4 Natrona County. Finally, in Class 1A-9 man, Lusk will get another shot at a team ranked above them. The third-rated Tigers head to Yoder to play No. 1 Southeast on Friday afternoon.
