The top two teams in Class 3A square off in a rivalry on the west side of the state. No. 1 Cody is at No. 2 Star Valley in the WyoPreps Big School Game of the Week.

The Broncs enter the game at 5-0, while the Braves are 5-1.

Between these two schools, they’ve won the last eight Class 3A football state championships.

These two are also No. 1 and No. 2 in total offense and total defense. Cody is No. 1 in rushing, while Star Valley is No. 1 in passing. Defensively, they both allow less than 216 yards per game. The Broncs are giving up only 6.6 points per game, while the Braves are giving up just 14.7 points per game.

The one difference big difference has been on the scoreboard. Cody is averaging nearly 55 points per game. Star Valley is at 33 points per game.

What a match-up!

Cody’s head coach Matt McFadden and Star Valley’s head coach McKay Young visited with WyoPreps before the big game. They both discussed the big rivalry, embracing the challenge of facing each other, how well the other is playing, and how difficult it might be to stop each other. Young also talked about some of his key personnel, including QB Taft McClure.

The first meeting on the football field between Cody and Star Valley dates back to 1957. According to wyoming-football.com, this will be just the 38th game in the series. Star Valley has the overall lead of 25-12. The Broncs won both games last year, 22-3 in the regular season and 24-17 in the semifinals of the playoffs.

It is also Homecoming for the Braves.

The kick-off is at 5 p.m. in Afton.
