Our first WyoPreps semifinal football ‘Game of the Week’ was determined by the flip of a coin, no joke. It’s a rematch from a year ago with Jackson at Douglas.

These two teams squared at Bearcat Stadium in the semis of 2020, and the Broncs beat Douglas, 21-14, and got the championship before they fell short to Cody.

Here we are a year later, and it’s the same scenario, although, Star Valley might have something to say in the other 3A semi, which has the Braves at Cody.

Jackson advanced with a blowout win over Buffalo, 75-27, last Friday. Douglas had a hard-fought victory over Powell, 14-10.

WyoPreps talked with both head coaches this week. We joked with Jackson coach David Joyce about if they saved any points and yards after last week’s performance, but also discussed the Brody Hasenack, Sadler Smith, being in this same position as 2020, and what they expect from Douglas. Bearcats’ head coach Jay Rhoades felt his team’s win over the Panthers was a good win. He talked about what they took away from it, staying home for the semis, the rematch against Jackson, and what they’re expecting from the Broncs.

Jackson features the top passing attack in the state at 298.3 yards per game. Douglas counters with Class 3A’s No. 3 rushing attack at 222.4 yards per game. Both defenses rank in the top three with Douglas No. 1 and the Broncs at No. 3.

This will be the sixth meeting between the two schools in the playoffs. Jackson has won four of the previous five, including last year’s. The series history is from wyoming-football.com.

The kick-off is at 1 p.m.
