Two of the top three ranked teams in Class 4A collide in an early-season showdown, as No.3 Rock Springs visits top-ranked Thunder Basin on Friday.

This game was voted by the fans at the WyoPreps Big School ‘Game of the Week.’

Both teams enter the match-up 1-0. They got there in different ways.

Rock Springs blew out Campbell County 56-8. The Tigers rolled up 313 yards of total offense and came away with five turnovers by the Camels. Isaac Schoenfeld accounted for four touchdowns, two rushing, and two receiving.

Thunder Basin started slowly. They trailed at Cheyenne East 28-0. The Bolts scored 39 straight and held off the T-Birds, 39-34. Thunder Basin piled up 455 yards on offense. Isaiah Halliburton ran for 213 yards, and Ryan Baker added 193 yards and three TD passes. Baker also added a rushing touchdown.

WyoPreps chatted with Rock Springs head coach Mark Lenhardt and Thunder Basin head coach Trent Pikula before Friday’s game. Lenhardt touched on last week’s game, how the veteran presence helped in the first game, what to expect from the Bolts, and prepping for a big game. Pikula reflected on the comeback, lessons learned about his team, praised coach Lenhardt and the Tigers, and how he’ll learn even more about his team after game two. This game marks the fifth in the series. Thunder Basin is 4-0 against Rock Springs.
