It’s been 30 years since the Cody Broncs beat the Star Valley Braves at home. The big, top-three showdown is the WyoPreps Big School Game of the Week.

Top-ranked Cody hosts No. 3 Star Valley at Spike Vannoy Field.

Cody is 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in the conference with wins over fourth-ranked Powell and at Evanston last week.

Star Valley is 3-3 on the year and 1-1 in the league. They lost at home two weeks ago to No. 2 Jackson but bounced back with a win over Powell last week, 29-13.

WyoPreps spoke with Star Valley head coach McKay Young and Cody’s head coach Matt McFadden.

Young talked about how he likes his team and their progress after a tough schedule over the first six games. He also spoke about the Braves’ tough run defense, their improving offense, senior Winston Green’s all-around play, and the matchup against Cody.

We asked Coach McFadden about the 30-year home drought, but he didn’t make a big deal about it. McFadden was very pleased with how they handled their road game at Evanston, another big game in conference play, and knowing how tough it will be to play Star Valley.

The game pits strength on strength. The Broncs lead Class 3A in rushing at 283 yards per game. The Braves only allow 69 rushing yards per game.

Coach Young admitted that Star Valley’s aerial attack is their main weapon. They are throwing for 155 yards per game. On the flip side, Cody leads Class 3A in surrendering only 70.6 passing yards per game to their opponents.

Friday is the 36th game in the series. Star Valley has won in a row over Cody, and the Braves lead the all-time series, 25-10. The first football game played between the two schools was back in 1957.

It’s a 6 o’clock kickoff in Cody.
