A pair of top-5 ranked teams square off in the first round of the 3A playoffs in a WyoPreps Game of the Week. No. 3 Powell plays at No. 5 Buffalo.

Both schools had a good regular season. The Panthers went 7-2 overall and 3-2 in conference games. The Bison were 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in league action.

This will be their first meeting since 2017.

Both teams like to run the ball. Buffalo was second and Powell third in the regular season in rushing yards per game. The difference was the Panthers were second in passing at 225 yards per game.

A couple of key matchups will be the Bison’s No. 2 rushing attack versus the No. 1 Powell defense that allowed only 83 yards per game on the ground. On the flip side, the Panthers’ aerial attack will face the No. 1 pass defense from Buffalo that allowed only 93 yards per game.

These two programs have played six previous times in the playoffs. Both schools have won 3 games each in the postseason. The last time they faced off in the playoffs was in 2007. That was a 21-7 victory by Buffalo.
