Kaycee had some great moments in the regular season. not so great moments at the 1A East regional and then some memorable moments at the State Tournament in Casper last month.  The Bucs played some very sharp volleyball and beat 4 time defending Cokeville in the 1A title match 3 sets to one. Kaycee made plays when they had to and made a bunch of them. This team went 30-5 on the season with a couple of all-state selections in Bindi Hill and Sierra Kilts. Arlette Ortega Chavez was an all-conference pick but out of those 3 players, on Kilts will return. That being said, Kaycee had just 3 seniors on their first championship team since 2010.

Cokeville has been the standard-bearer for 1A volleyball for quite some time. The Panthers finished the season with a record of 21-13 and normally, speaking, the southwest part of the state is very competitive when it comes to volleyball. They disposed of Lingle-Fort Laramie and Hulett at the state tournament until they ran into a buzz saw in Kaycee in the 1A final. Emmie Barnes who is a sensational all-around athlete made the all-state list as we as Kylee Dayton and Michea Peterson. Sydney Nate was an all-conference selection. All 4 of those players were seniors do it's going to be a year of adjustment for Cokeville in 2022.

Southeast was the 1A East regional champion and forged their way to a 3rd place finish at the state tournament in Casper. The Cyclones rebounded from a semi-final round loss to Kaycee to beat Lingle and Little Snake River for the bronze medal.  Jordan Stoddard who is one of the state's finest all-around athletes was named all-state as well as Brianna Herring. In addition to those two, Shelby Ekwall, Grace Desmond, and Sydney Anderson were designated all-conference. Desmond and Stoddard were seniors this year while, Herring, Anderson, and Ekwall will be seniors next year. Southeast wrapped up the year 22-11.

Little Snake River placed 4th this year in 1A and had some nail-biting matches during the regular season and regional play. The Rattlers lost in the quarterfinal round to Kaycee 3-0 at the state tournament but beat Saratoga to stay alive and then beat Hulett to get to the 3rd place match. The Rattlers were 26-7 in 2021 with two all-state players in Katelynn Englehart and Skylynn Ready. Both of those players were seniors but the team can build around all-conference pick Kylie Evans.

The Meeteetse Longhorns went 18-9 and surprised Burlington in the 1A West regional to advance to the state tournament. The Longhorns lost to Hulett and Lingle to finish the season but they did have an all-state pick in Jayci Ervin and a trio of all-conference picks; Kayla Horsen, Kiana Horsen, and Delanie Salzman. Kayla Horsen was just a sophomore and Ervin was a junior this past season so Meeteetse has a bright future.

Hulett was a team that also had one all-state player in McKenna Kromarek and three all-conference picks in Cassie Vitto, Kaydence Westover, and Myah Shoun. Hulett will have all four of those players around for next season. The Red Devils were the #2 seed from the east and beat Meeteetse in the quarterfinal round but lost to Cokeville in the semi-finals. Hulett enjoyed a solid season at 21-9.

Saratoga had a regional tournament that was productive enough to punch a ticket to the state tournament as the #4 seed from the west. The Panther went 0-2 in Casper to finish 13-15 with Whitney Bennett securing an all-state spot and an all-conference selection in Hanna Lathrop. This team did not have a single senior in 2021 so the future looks bright for the Panthers,

Lingle-Fort Laramie was another team that squeezed their way into the state tournament with a 3 games to one upset of Upton in the 1A East regional. The state tourney wasn't nearly as exhilarating as the regional tournament but did go 1-2 at state with a win over Meeteetse in the consolation round. Baylee Skinner was named all-state for the Doggers with Natalie Speckner getting an all-conference nod. Both players are expected to return in 2022 and LFL will definitely improve on their 13-19 record.

We have a few pics to share with you from the 1A state tournament in our gallery below. Enjoy!
