They've been competitors since their freshman year, or earlier, and their hard work has not only paid off again, it's put them at the top of the graduating class of 2018.

Haize Fornstrom of Pine Bluffs and Maddy Vinich of Kelly Walsh were named the boys and girls winner of the 2018 Milward-Simpson award.

The award is named after Milward Simpson who was the team captain for the University of Wyoming football, basketball and baseball teams, and earned varsity letters in each sport from 1917-1921.

He later served as Wyoming Governor from 1954-58 and as a U.S. Senator from 1962-67.

It is given out to the best overall high school athlete of each graduating class.

2018 is the 43rd year for the award.

Fornstrom is a 4-year letter winner in football, basketball and outdoor track and field, and was part of 5 state championship teams at Pine Bluffs (2 football, 2 basketball and 1 outdoor track and field).

He will attend the University of Wyoming where he will major in Business and continue his football career.

Vinich was named 4A All-State in volleyball, and basketball 4 times each, and won the 2017 Wyoming Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year.

She will attend the University of Wyoming where she will pursue a degree in the medical field.
