2021 Wyoming High School Football Class 4A State Championship Preview [VIDEOS]
The top two teams will battle for the Class 4A football state championship with Rock Springs going up against Sheridan on Saturday in Laramie.
Sheridan won the regular-season meeting between the two schools in a back-and-forth game from Week 3, 27-24.
This will be the third time they will play each other for a championship but the previous two were in 1934 and 1935. Here we are 86 years later.
WyoPreps had in-depth conversations with both head coaches before the game, Sheridan’s Jeff Mowry, and Rock Springs’ Mark Lenhardt.

Team Info & Series History:
Rock Springs (10-1) – Mark Lenhardt: 3rd year as head coach; 7 state championships in school history; the most recent was in 2002 (36-14 over Campbell County). That was part of a back-to-back with the 2001 title right before it. Their first state championship was back in 1935. This is the Tigers’ first trip to a championship game in Laramie.
Sheridan (10-1) – Jeff Mowry: 4th year as head coach; 27 state championships in school history; the last was in 2019 (35-26 over Thunder Basin). Their first title came in 1921. These Broncs have appeared in 8 of the previous 11 Class 4A title games in Laramie. They won it in 2009, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019.
Sheridan leads the series 26-4 with two ties. They first played each other in a varsity game in 1934 for a state championship. In the postseason, this will be the eighth meeting between the two schools. Sheridan holds a 7-1 advantage over Rock Springs. The last win in the series for the Tigers was in 1959. They have split the two championship game meetings.
