Douglas and Cody played for the 3A Volleyball Championship on Saturday with a 5-set title match that was fitting for these 2 talented teams. Douglas was the #1 seed from the East with a 1-2 punch from Lauren Olsen and Leah Ewing who were All-State picks a year ago. Cody was a state championship contender in 4A a year ago and the #1 seed from the West with a returning All-State player in Rainey Powell. She got some serious help from senior Sophia Radavoich, junior Ellie Talich, and sophomore Grace Hays.

Cody came out strong in the match with a 25-18 win in set #1 but Douglas displayed some fortitude with a 25-14 win in set #2. Cody took the 3rd set 25-17 which forced Douglas to show more fortitude. The Bearcats did just that winning set #4 26-24 and trailed in that set 22-19. The 5th and final set was nerve-wracking for the fans with Douglas making the plays they needed to make to win their first state title since 2017.

The Cats finished the year 35-4 and Cody wrapped up the year 29-6. It was a well-played match in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
