Mallory Jones of Moorcroft comes from a long-distance running family and finally made it to the top of the podium in the State 2A Girls cross-country race with a winning time of 21.20.5 on Saturday in Ethete. As a sophomore a year ago, she placed 2nd at the 2A state meet but had a commanding 20+ seconds advantage in 2022 as she reached the finish line. Jones is the defending 2A state champion in outdoor track in the 800 and 1600 meter runs and took 3rd in the 3200. Marilee Williams of Saratoga was 2nd in 21.42.9 and Ruth Johnson of Thermopolis was 3rd in 21.57.5 Annesa Luna of Lovell was 4th and Milan Scott of Saratoga was 3rd.

The Saratoga girls won the team championship by 40 points over Tongue River with Thermopolis 3rd, Hulett 4th, and Glenrock 5th. Check out our video of that 2A race and some great photos from Shannon Dutcher in our gallery below. Enjoy!
