One of the top divers throughout the 2019 season, Powell’s Emma Karhu completed her ascent to the top with a victory at the 3A State Championships.

The junior won the diving competition by 69 points last Thursday and Friday in Gillette. It completed a season where Karhu had either the first or second-best score among Class 3A competitors all season.

Karhu visited with WyoPreps after her win in the video above. They discussed her feeling of winning, her success throughout the year, her mindset and the work she put in, plus just focusing on diving, and in particular her technique that pushed her to the top.

She was fifth as a freshman and fourth as a sophomore, so this was a big step forward.

Karhu will go after a second consecutive state title in 2020 as the favorite.
