The first winner of the WyoPreps Athlete of the Year honor for Girls’ Alpine Skiing, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming and Wyld Gear, was Jackson Hole High School’s Maddie Ryan. She received the award after a terrific junior year during the 2023-24 high school season. Maddie's efforts helped Jackson win another alpine skiing state championship. It was their 15th in a row and 44th in school history.

Ryan finished first in all-state points this year with 162. That was 22 points ahead of the next closest skier. She placed in the top four of ten races during the 2023-24 season. Ryan won the giant slalom race at the Laramie Invite after a two-run time at 1:19.22. She had three runner-up finishes, took third in three races, and fourth in three more. There was only one race that Ryan did not place or ski. She took fourth at the state championships in the GS. The slalom race was canceled at the state championships because of the conditions at the resort.

Ryan visited with WyoPreps. She was honored and a little stunned by this award. Ryan felt it was a positive season with highs and lows, knows her mental game had to be in the right place to be consistent, discussed the aspects of her training and technique she focused on, and more.

Congratulations to Maddie Ryan!
