The Lovell Mustangs accomplished a first on Monday. They won the Class A Wyoming American Legion Baseball State Championship in the current model. Lovell defeated Wehatland, Cody, Powell, and Cody again to win the 2025 title in Sheridan. Tucker Jackson was named the Single-A State Tournament MVP. Lafe Files turned in a huge pitching performance, and Cash Wassmer had some key hits during the tournament and in the title game victory.

WyoPreps had an opportunity on Wednesday to visit with Files, Wassmer, Jackson, and Mustangs' skipper Mike Jameson to get their reaction to winning it all. Files discussed his big victory on the mound, Wassmer reflected on the feeling and some big hits, Jackson discussed the MVP honor, and Coach Jameson reviewed it all.

Lovell beat Wheatland in the first round 10-8. They rallied from a 7-0 deficit. They outlasted Cody, 9-6, and then beat Powell in 8 innings, 2-1. That win clinched their spot in the state championship game. The Mustangs lost to Cody, 9-2, on Sunday, which meant there was a one-game, winner-take-all, title tilt on Monday afternoon. The Cubs took an early lead, but Lovell battled back again and pulled away, 5-2. It was their first baseball crown since winning the Class B title in 1986.

Lovell will play at the Northwest Class A Regional Tournament (NWCART) in Burley, ID. Their first game is against the host and Idaho state champion, Burley Green Sox. They will play at 7:30 p.m. on August 7.
