The Burlington boys basketball team strung together 4 straight state championships from 2014-2017 and narrowly missed a 5th as they were beaten at the buzzer by Kaycee in 2018. The 2019 season ended with 19 wins and 7 losses as the Huskies qualified for the 1A State Tournament as a 4 seed. This team was led by one of the state's finest all-around athletes in Dontae Garza who was a Milward Simpson award finalist. In basketball, he was an all-state pick for the 2nd year in a row, averaging 19 points and 8 rebounds per game. Jacob Cook was the team's other double-digit scorer, throwing in 10 points per game. In the opening round of the state tournament, the Huskies lost to Upton 76-33 as they shot just 24% from the floor and missed all 10 of their 3 point shots. Garza had 17 in that game. Burlington had a much better outing in the consolation round with a 66-52 win over Hanna-Elk Mountain as Garza went off for 25 points. The overall shooting was better too at a 46% clip. The Huskies took 5th at state with a 63-50 victory over Kaycee as Garza went wild for 31 points on 14-26 from the floor. Burlington was senior heavy this past season with 6 and Garza's production will be hard to replace. Next year's team will have just one senior
