Burns/Pine Bluff senior wrestler Baylen Smith has signed to wrestle in college at Waldorf University.

Smith competed in the Class 3A 126-pound division in the 2021-22 season. He finished with a record of 26-18.

The senior had surgery back in August and hopes to be cleared later this season to compete in his final prep year.

As a sophomore, Smith wrestled at 120 pounds and 21-16. He went 33-22 at 106 pounds back in his freshman season.

Smith visited campus back in October and spent time with the team and head coach Ryan Dickinson. He is excited to make the journey to Iowa, the “wrestling state.” Smith enjoyed the family atmosphere on his visit and how personable Coach Dickinson was during his time with the team. The coach even made the trip out to Burns for Baylen’s signing earlier this month.

He is expected to wrestle at 125 or 133 pounds in college.

Waldorf University is in Forest City, IA. The Warriors compete at the NAIA level of intercollegiate athletics and are a member of the North Star Athletic Association.
