Cook, Paxton, and Stenerson Earn WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Awards [VIDEO]
Two golfers who put their names in the record book and an excelling football player received the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Award honors presented by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming.
Lovell senior golfer Erika Cook earned the girls’ honor. The boys’ award was shared between Riverton senior golfer Parker Paxton and Powell senior football player Trey Stenerson.
Both Cook and Paxton entered into the high school golf record books last Saturday. Both seniors accomplished the rare feat of being a four-time state champion in prep golf. Only two other girls and two other boys have achieved the rare four-peat in Wyoming High School golf history.
They both won the state title at the Green Hills Golf Course in Worland, WY. Cook was a five-shot winner, while Paxton captured his title by two shots.

Stenerson shared the boys’ award after an eye-popping performance last Friday night. In a match-up of two top-five teams in the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Football Poll, No. 3 Powell hosted No. 4 Douglas. The Panthers rolled to a 40-point victory, 47-7, thanks to Stenerson and his teammates.
The senior caught six passes for a school-record 249 yards. What was more impressive was that it was six catches for six TDs. That meant Stenerson accounted for 36 of Powell’s 47 points scored in the victory.
His coach, Chase Kistler said, “In all my years of coaching I never heard a stat line of 6 catches for 6 touchdowns.”
WyoPreps spoke with Cook and Paxton on Wednesday. We discussed the accomplishment of a fourth consecutive state title in golf, the challenges both faced in winning this year, how they played in Worland, and more.
WyoPreps has not had a chance to chat with Trey Stenerson. We will add that to this story once that happens.
The WyoPreps Athlete of the Week nominations are accepted each week from 5 p.m. on Fridays through 9 a.m. on Mondays. Anyone can nominate a student-athlete or team. Winners are announced each Wednesday.
