Cowboy State Harriers Compete in Huge National Meets
A trio of Wyoming high school cross-country runners competed in large national meets over the weekend.
Cody's Charlie Hulbert was in the Footlocker West Regional on Saturday which was held at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California. Hulbert was a very respectable 15th in this elite race with a time of 15.52. The top 10 finishers in this event qualified for this week's Footlocker Finals that will be in San Diego, Hulbert is the defending 3A state champion in cross country and took 3rd at the 2023 4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 800 and 1600 meter runs.
Riverton's Kaden Chatfield was also in that Footlocker West Regional and placed 45th with a clocking of 16.14. Chatfield took 9th place at the 3A State Cross Country Meet in October in Cheyenne. Chatfield had a strong 4A state meet in outdoor track as he finished 3rd in the 3200, 5th in the 1600, and 9th in the 800.
Cheyenne Central sophomore Race Morrell competed in the Garmin Running Lane race on Saturday at the John Hunt Running Course in Huntsville, Alabama. The weather conditions were nasty with pouring rain and mud but Morrell ended up 57th in a field that featured 1500 runners. His time was 15.52 and Morrell took 4th place at the 4A State Cross Country Meet at the Cheyenne Country Club.
At the Foot Locker West Regional, the Wright Panthers had three runners compete. In the freshman girls' division, Caemlyn Nolte placed 56th at 24:41 out of 112 runners. In the senior girls' race, Kylie Benim took 99th out of 185 in the division. Her time was 24:14. From the freshman boys' division, Tobyn Teigen finished 85th in the race at 20:02. 217 runners competed in the division.
