Dane Steel of Sheridan was a dynamic player in football in 2023 and is a shoo-in for Gatorade Player of the Year honors. He'll be taking his skills to Montana State in the fall and Steel played a huge role in Sheridan's 4A State Championship campaign.

In that 4A title game vs. Cheyenne East, Steel had 7 catches for 131 yards including a 67-yard touchdown grab. He also had an interception on defense. Steel was an incredibly versatile player for the Sheridan offense as a receiver, running back, and wildcat quarterback. In 2023, he caught 44 passes for 970 yards and 9 touchdowns and ran the ball for 368 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Steel was a big-time force on defense with 6 interceptions which led 4A by a wide margin and scored a couple of defensive touchdowns. He also was a dangerous kick-returner with a TD to his credit in that category.

In his junior season. Steel had 6 receiving touchdowns, 3 rushing touchdowns, and a remarkable 103 tackles on defense. He's also a two-time 4A state champion wrestler with a record of 41-4 as a junior and 43-2 as a sophomore.

Montana State plays in the Big Sky Conference in football and went 8-4 this past season.
