Photofest! Douglas Clinches a #1 Seed in 3A Football Postseason
In a battle of 3A East football contenders, Douglas grabbed a #1 seed for the playoffs with a tough 28-21 win over Torrington on Friday night. The Bearcats went 6-2 in the regular season and 5-0 in conference play. They started the season 1-2 but found some traction as the season went along. Torrington was 5-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play so the Blazers will be the #3 seed from East in the playoffs.
Each team found the end zone in the opening quarter of play as Drew Kramer of Torrington ran it in from 8 yards out to make it 7-0. Douglas came right back with a 21-yard run to the house from Jarret Jones to even the contest at 7 all.
Each team found the end zone twice in the 2nd quarter, as Torrington had back-to-back touchdowns from Colby Sandusky on a 12-yard run and Kramer on a 10-yard dart to lead 21-7. Once again, Douglas responded as Collin Roberts dashed into the end zone from a dozen yards out which was followed by a 1-yard run from Milo Oria to even it up at 21 all.
The defenses for both squads tightened up in the 2nd half but Douglas grabbed the lead in the 3rd quarter on a 1-yard plunge for a touchdown. That concluded the scoring in a game that will prepare both teams for the rigors of postseason play.
Douglas will be at home on Friday night to take on Evanston in round one while Torrington will be on the road at Cody. Be sure and review our photo collection from the Douglas-Torrington game, compliments of Erin Hager. Enjoy!
