WyoPreps Game of the Week: #1 Sheridan at #3 Natrona County [VIDEO]
The fan-voted big-school WyoPreps Game of the Week is in Class 4A. Top-ranked Sheridan goes on the road to Casper to take on the No. 3 Natrona County Mustangs. Both teams are off to a 2-0 start. The Broncs have wins over Cheyenne South and Thunder Basin. The Mustangs have defeated Thunder Basin and Rock Springs. Sheridan is vying for its 34th consecutive win.
The last meeting between the two teams was in Week 7 of the 2023 season. Sheridan won in a blowout, 42-7.
In the 2024 season, the Broncs lead Class 4A in rushing at 283 yards per game and are No. 1 in total offense at 365 yards per game. NC is No. 5 in total offense at 234 yards per game. These two feature two of the top three defenses so far in 2024. Sheridan is No. 1 and allows only 107 yards per game. They have not allowed a point so far this season. The Mustangs are No. 3 in total defense at 171 yards allowed per game. They give up 5 points per game.
WyoPreps visited with Natrona County head coach Steve Harshman and Sheridan coach Jeff Mowry to preview the game. The two coaches discussed the start of their season, how they focus on just getting better each week, what they expect from each other, and what they expect from their team.
This series goes back to 1921, according to wyoming-football.com. Friday will be the 118th game between Natrona County and Sheridan. The Mustangs lead the series 59-52-6. The Broncs have won four straight and ten of the last 13 between the two schools.
The kick-off is at 7 p.m. in Casper at Cheney Alumni Field.
